10 Most Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the 10 Most Frequently Asked Questions about our fees, options for insurance use, and the services we offer. As well as whether we are accepting new patients and whether we offer in-person versus telemedicine appointments.
Do you take my insurance?
We are an Out-of-Network provider. Although we are not on any insurance panels and do not accept direct payments from insurance companies, we CAN help you understand the process of submitting your claim forms and paid receipts for partial insurance reimbursement. Ask your therapist or Petra Desmond for details (240) 252-3349 Ext. 807
What are your fees?
We like to be transparent about our fees. Standard fees are posted right here on our Our Fees page. Like for groups, others are on the specific practice area description page.
Why am I getting a “Call Us” pop-up box when I try to book my initial appointment?
So that you know – the therapist to book with is likely almost the one you are trying to complete. We will need to talk on the phone to see if the therapist you’re requesting can accommodate your request. If not, we will see if we have alternative professionals to meet your needs or offer resources that might work. In other cases, the pop-up window is triggered because some of our specialty providers (such as attorneys and coaches) need to double-check their calendars before committing to ensure they don’t double-book themselves as they have other practice locations and complex calendars. Finally, our Psychiatrist has a pop-up screen because he can only be available for medication management for Kentlands Psychotherapy therapy clients due to the high demand for psychopharmacology services.
Are you taking new clients?
Yes! Please call us to learn who is available and who may fit you or your loved one.
How young of a child client can you see?
We take preschool children as young as two years old for therapy and as young as six for testing.
Do you have weekend and evening hours?
Yes! Some of our therapists work evenings, and some others work weekends. You can check the New Client Appointment Requests button on our Home Page to see the scheduling calendars of our therapists; by looking a month or so out, you will get a good idea of their typical work hours.
Where are you located?
We are in the heart of the Kentlands. Map yourself to us using this link.
Can you take HSA or FSA cards?
Yes! Our SimplePractice Stripe account is registered as a medical merchant account. We also accept regular credit and debit cards, checks, and cash. We do not accept direct payments from insurance companies.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your time is exclusively reserved for you. We ask that you cancel 24 hours in advance to avoid being billed for your appointment. If you have an emergency, please call your therapist immediately. If you forget about your work and your therapist calls to check in with you, consider asking them to convert you to a Telehealth appointment so you two can still meet, and you’ll avoid an un-reimbursable cancellation fee. People can often make an appointment, even at the last minute, if they do not need to drive to us. Are you thinking about canceling because of inclement weather? Follow this link for our Snow Policy.
Could you let me know if you're offering in-person appointments?
Yes, although we continue to offer Telehealth psychotherapy appointments for older teens and adults, as well as for medication management and couples therapy (by some of our couples therapists). Many of our therapists are now offering in-person appointments again. Younger teens and children are sometimes poor candidates for Telehealth psychotherapy. All you need for these teleconferencing services is the free Telehealth by SimplePractice app, a quiet, private location, and an adequate data or WiFi signal. Unlike telephone psychotherapy, telemedicine appointments are usually eligible for health insurance reimbursement. Also, per Gov. Hogan’s order, as of July 1, 2021, we will no longer require masks in our offices.
BONUS QUESTIONS
I heard there is a Dog at your office. Is that true? Will I see him when I have an appointment?
Yes, we have a canine staff member! Riley is a 45-pound Lab, Beagle, Boxer, Jack Russell Terrier, and Great Pyrenees rescue mix (e.g., a typical all-American dog). He is a valued member of our staff who works with the Doctors Carr. He also likes to meet and greet people in the lobby when he feels confident and outgoing. Like all of our staff, he has shifts and days off, and sometimes he’s on vacation, so depending on your appointment times, you may or may not meet him. We encourage Riley to have a work/life balance. His favorite vacations involved camping and hiking, especially on the Appalachian Trail. Follow him on IG at Riley_off_the_Clock.
I heard you have snacks. Really?
Yes! You can’t do therapy if you are starving, right? We offer crackers, peanuts, fruit gummies, biscotti, coffee, tea, apple cider, hot cocoa, and cold water. We’ve got you covered.
Are you the ones with that classic car I’ve seen around town?
Yep. That little buggy is an all-electric replica of the 1908 Ford Model T. It runs on six rechargeable golf cart batteries. It is licensed as a low-speed vehicle, which means you’ll only see it in the neighborhood as it’s restricted to streets with a 30 mph speed limit or lower. It’s our earth-friendly, rolling billboard.
What do you mean that you’re a “boutique” practice?
Your prices aren’t that different from others, and you don’t have an annual fee like a Concierge Service. We value customer service, beautiful surroundings, personal warmth, provider accessibility, and exceptional clinical care. We provide concierge services without the concierge fees. Come meet us! You’ll see how we’re different!
