Dr. Julie Mudryj
Dr. Julie Mudryj joins the Kentlands Psychotherapy team as a psychologist. She brings seven years of experience providing individual therapy and conducting comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations of children, adolescents, and young adults. She understands how a thorough evaluation with individualized recommendations can positively influence the trajectory of therapy, ultimately helping clients reach their short and long-term goals.
Testing
Dr. Mudryj has extensive experience testing in various settings, including community mental health, school, and residential treatment. Her advanced skills at evaluating individuals with complex medical, developmental, attentional, learning, and socioemotional disorders allow her to understand complex presentations. This makes it possible for her to offer clarity to patients, their school systems, and their medical providers. In therapy, Dr. Mudryj approaches her conceptualization from a biopsychosocial framework to holistically understand an individual, their history, and their current symptoms in order to create helpful and attainable treatment recommendations.
Therapy
In addition to testing, Dr. Mudryj has experience providing individual, family, and group therapy. She practices evidenced-based interventions, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Dr. Mudryj has experience working with a variety of presentations, including anxiety, depression, self-injury, PTSD, trauma, ADHD, and oppositional behavior. As well as individual therapeutic work, Dr. Mudryj actively supervises doctoral interns and postdoctoral Psychology Associates for therapy and psychological testing at an American Psychological Association (APA) approved internship program at John L Gildner Regional Institute for Children and Adolescents (RICA). Dr. Mudryj finds working with children, adolescents, and young adults particularly rewarding due to these individuals’ unique developmental stages. Each is a time of significant growth, self-discovery, and change, presenting challenges and opportunities for profound personal development. Dr. Mudryj enjoys this age group’s dynamic and evolving nature. It allows her to make a lasting impact during a critical period of identity formation and emotional development. She finds the opportunity to guide young people towards healthier self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, and stronger interpersonal skills is deeply fulfilling, as it contributes to overall well-being and future success.
Background
Dr. Mudryj received her doctoral degree (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. She received the Dean’s Scholar Award for graduating at the top of her class before relocating to Maryland. She completed pre- and postdoctoral training with the Maryland Department of Health. Her expertise in navigating the school and special education system provides tremendous support to her student clients.
