Therapy for “Quirky” Kids

Because not every kid fits in a box—and that’s okay.

At Kentlands Psychotherapy, we celebrate what makes your child one-of-a-kind. If your child marches to the beat of their own drum, you’re in the right place! We love one-of-a-kind kids, and our team is here to support them.

We offer specialized therapy for children and teens who may not fit neatly into traditional labels.

Whatever the story, our goal is the same: to help kids who may be called “quirky” or “different” have a safe place to be celebrated. We want all kids to feel confident, connected, and understood, and we are here to support your child as they become their best self, not to make them fit into a conventional or narrow mold.

We support kids who:

  • Are highly creative, imaginative, or theatrical

  • Have strong interests that set them apart socially

  • Are anxious or sensitive in new environments

  • Struggle with peer relationships or emotional regulation

  • Identify as LGBTQ+ or are exploring their identity

  • Might be on the autism spectrum or have traits of ADHD, even without a diagnosis

  • Have been described as “too much” or “too different” in traditional settings

A safe space for all kids to thrive

Our child therapists build strong relationships with young clients by honoring their individuality and meeting them where they are. Therefore, therapy is playful, respectful, and tailored to each child’s unique strengths and challenges. We help them build coping skills, improve self-esteem, and find their own voice—whether that’s through talk, play, art, or movement.

Additionally, we work closely with parents to support the child at home and in school. You know your child best, and we’ll partner with you to help them shine. Call us at (240) 252-3349 for details and suggestions for which therapist could be a great fit for your one-of-a-kind child!

It's not an easy time to be a kid. Perhaps it never is, but now it's especially true. Let us help you understand and support your child's needs.

Is your teen struggling with school, in their relationships with friends, with you? Do they seem irritable, withdrawn, unmotivated, sad? Our therapist know how to help.

Are you looking to make some aspect of your otherwise good relationship better? Maybe you’ve tried all the strategies that make sense to you.
