Our Professionals

Hello, I'm Elizabeth Carr.  I founded Kentlands Psychotherapy after six years as a Navy Psychologist.  I see adult individuals and couples.  My current clinical focus is on assisting people in developing relationship mastery, click here for details.  *Scroll down for picture and more*

Russell Carr, M.D.  Dr. Carr is a board certified psychiatrist who has recently joined the practice providing individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

Dr. Krista Beyer.  Krista recently relocated to the DC area.  She has extensive experience working with late adolescences and young adults.  I invited Dr. Beyer to join the practice because I found her to be an old soul with a kind heart.  I expect she will be a valuable resource to our community.

Couple's Therapy ExternThis externship is open to senior-level doctoral psychology students who have successfully completed the USUHS Couple and Marital Therapy course.
*Low fee services available - call for details on current extern availability*

Carol Hall.  Kentlands Psychology Office Manager

If you are seeking a psychologist who can assist you with the therapy and assessment needs of your young child or adolescent, I recommend considering Dr. Michelle New, founder of Kentlands Kids.

Dr. Elizabeth Carr

Much of my work can be described as helping people achieve relationship mastery through collaborative mentoring.

I believe we all struggle with some universal challenges to intimacy.  There is rarely a "bad guy" when a couple is struggling.  People have a natural capacity to find solutions to  problems, to discover strategies to improve relationships, and to overcome self-imposed obstacles within the right therapeutic relationship.  My job is to provide you with a supportive ear, compassionate feedback, and to ask questions that bring you to ideas for action.   It is also to help couples find a new way to be with one another that warms the heart and brings people together again as allies.

Aside from the private practice in Gaithersburg, MD, I also teach at the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences where I train doctoral level psychology students assessment and therapy skills, including marital and couple's therapy.  I am married and live with my family in Montgomery Village, Maryland.

Russell Carr, M.D.

I provide comprehensive psychiatric care, psychotherapy as well as evaluation, recommendation, and oversight of medication. By offering a “one-stop shop,” I can eliminate redundancy in appointments and the need for coordination between providers. As a board certified psychiatrist* I am well-versed in the latest research and indications for psychiatric medications. However, that is only one aspect of treatment, and not necessary for many people. With ten years as a military physician, I can provide you with extensive experience in treating adult-onset trauma within a highly confidential therapeutic relationship. I am a candidate in the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute, and prefer to see clients at least weekly for individual psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

*Board Certified Psychiatrist and Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

Dr Krista Beyer - Psychologist

Dr. Krista Beyer
Hello – this is Krista Beyer and I’m delighted to have joined Dr. Carr at Kentlands Psychotherapy. My background includes working with people of all ages in brief treatment and longer-term therapy, to address a wide range of problems. I have led interpersonal process groups and have conducted workshops on such topics as dream exploration and suicide risk. More recently, I have written articles for Montgomery County’s Insight magazine.

My approach to psychotherapy is integrative, which allows me to draw from a variety of styles and techniques – including cognitive, interpersonal, and person-centered. I collaborate with you to tailor a therapy that best fits your needs and personality. Depending on what is most meaningful for you, we might focus primarily on your symptoms and/ or delve into deeper issues. We can also incorporate important elements of your life into the therapy, including diversity issues, creativity, spirituality, and personal growth. My goal is to create the most effective and efficient psychotherapy experience for you.
